Keyword density is how many times a given keyword or phrase occurs on a webpage or content compared to words on the page. Keyword density is an important metric in search engine optimization because it helps the search engine interpret how relevant and important a certain keyword or phrase might be for the content.
KEYWORD DENSITY LEVEL:-
Low-density: 0.5-1% (for long-tail keywords or niche topics)
Medium-density: 1-2% (for most of the content and keywords).
High-density: 2-5% (for competition-heavy keywords or for targeting specific long-tail phrases).
Do keyword Density Matters in SEO?
Keyword density still matters in SEO but has evolved greatly over the years. Here is how it matters to SEO:
1) Relevance:- Keyword density helps the search engines understand a web page’s relevance for a specific keyword or phrase. By including target keywords at the right frequency, you can provide a message to the search engines regarding the relevance of that topic.
2) Ranking: The keyword density is typically a factor in the rankings of long-tail keywords. Having higher keyword density for a specific long-tail phrase will rank much better than some pages with low keyword density.
3) Quality content: Keyword density can influence perceived quality content. Keywords will view high keyword density content as low grade or even spam, which negatively affects ranking.
4) User experience:- Keyword density can impact the user experience. A page whose keyword density is very high can be considered overpowering or even hard to read, thus harming user engagement and conversion.
5) Optimization:-Keyword density counts among the things that one considers while optimizing, when adjusting the content for the targeted keywords, one increases the chances of ranking with that keyword.
6) Competition:- In competitive niches, keyword density can be an important differentiator. By optimizing your content with the target keyword at the right frequency, you get ahead of competitors not doing so.
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE ON HOW TO CREATE KEYWORD DENSITY:-
STEP:-1 Identify your targeted keyword:
Identify the keywords and phrases you will target. You can do this based on keyword research via tools like Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, or SEMrush.
STEP:-2 Determine Keyword Density Range:
Based upon the audience you’ll be targeting and the competition for your niche and type of content, determine the amount of keyword density that’s suitable for your content.
For example, if the information is more general, you likely want to settle for a 1-2.5% keyword density, while if it is technically oriented content, then you’re targeting 2.5-5%.
STEP:-3 Word Count Calculation:
Calculate the total words of all text, including headings, subheadings, and body text content.
STEP:-4 Total Keyword Count:
The total occurrences of your target keywords throughout your content, though variations and synonyms are to be counted.
STEP:-5 Keyword Density Percentage Calculation:
Divide the total no of keywords by the total word count then multiply by a hundred to get the keyword density percentage.
STEP:-6 Formula: (Total number of keywords / Total word count) x 100
Example:-Your content has 500 words and your keyword appears 10 times (including variations), the keyword density would be:
(10/500) x 100 = 2%
